Hisashi Umezaki

Mr. Umezaki has been President of Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd. since it was founded in 2004 by transforming semi-private Teito Rapid Transit Authority (TRTA), where he had served as the vice-president for two years, into a private entity. He has taken the lead in the improvement of customer satisfaction and the expansion of its affiliated businesses.

According to Tokyo Metro's mid-term business plan for FY2007-2009, Mr. Umezaki currently devotes himself to the improvement of the financial management and compliance of the company as well as to the coordination with stakeholders.

Mr. Umezaki served the Ministry of Transport for more than 34 years and held various chief positions including Vice-Minister of Transport prior to coming to TRTA. He served as Director-General of the Railway Bureau between 1995 and 1997, and significantly contributed to the settlement of the long-term debt of the Japanese National Railways, which was a grave national concern.

Mr. Umezaki graduated from Kyoto University with a Bachelor of Law in 1966.
